journal flash photography london

Living in West London in 2003, under the Heathrow flight path, meant that I got to see airplanes flying over head all day every day. I recall counting one plane every two minutes.

I took to photographing them, as they had become such a pervasive part of daily life. Later, I conceived of a Flash app that would randomly compose a tiled image from a list of photographs

journal perth doodles

I love the doodles we absent-mindedly make while doing other tasks. They are a "stream-of-consciousness" medium, often giving us surprising images.

Over time, I plan to collect my doodles and post up the more interesting examples. I've already noticed that the enlarged scale amplifies the marks and artifacts. If inspired to, I'll process them further before showing them.

This installment of 2 doodles has been Post-It noted to my monitor bevel for weeks. There was something about them that I liked too much to be able to throw them away. Finally, it clicked and I realised that I should scan them and archive them here.

journal perth art illustration

The Western Australia chapter of AGDA held a screenprinting workshop early in May of 2009. Master printmaker James Bryans hosted the workshop in his studio, with about 8 members attending.

My medium of choice for my Fine Art degree was screenprinting, but I hadn't revisited it since graduating in 1992. Recently, I had been dreaming about getting back into again, but I couldn't find any workshop facilities for print-making in Perth. So I jumped at the opportunity to be able to pull a few prints again

journal art illustration surfing

While researching a possible career in illustration, and being a keen surfer, I noticed that the genre of "surf art" had potential, but was also cluttered with some of the worst kitsch I'd yet seen.

I tend to want to draw and paint the things I am currently obsessed with. At the time it was surfing, and so I often used to watch surf movies with a sketchbook on my lap. I'd draw scenes as if I were on the boat in the Mentawais as well. If only.

Two Wheels Good

I'm looking forward to redesigning the On Two Wheels TV Show website.

Renovations

A new 220 website is in the works.

Inspiration

Pictory

Pictory is a beautifully designed and tightly curated photography showcase. The combination of large beautiful images with human stories delivers a compelling experience, not dissimilar to that of pouring over a high quality book.

Mash

Mash makes beautiful and surprising design for enlightened clients. Interestingly, they do a lot of wine label work, and they're amazing. All packaging should be this good!
